Why is my voice SO low?

March 14th, 2010 by webmaster
  • Seriously, my voice is stupidly low. I don't even know how to explain it, but I sound like a black guy (not that all of them have low voices) or something, I am 16 and I have a lower voice than EVERYONE I know..

What is the cause of this.?

  • That's just the voice you were given. Some men have low voices. When you get older it won't feel so out of place. Think of George Takei and James Earl Jones. Their low voices are greatly respected.

And while you said you know not all black men have low voices, a general statement like "I sound like a black guy" can sound racist. So be careful where you say such things. Black men are no more likely to have deep voices than anyone else. Voice pitch and skin tone are not connected.

  • How it is is how it is for you. Learn to live with it; love it. You can't exactly change it. As a tenor myself, I'd love to have a deeper voice. Not going to happen...

If you are good at communication, consider becoming a DJ or radio announcer. Put it to good use, rather than curse it.

  • your vocal cords grew as you went through puberty so your voice is low.
It is similar to the strings on a guitar. The longer ones give lower tones.
