Which science teachers are in demand?

March 13th, 2010 by rose
  • I have conducted a survey regarding the demand of science teachers in our Malaysia . Currently there are various opinions being expressed towards the concern of shortage of science teachers in various gov universities as well as schools.

So being part of completing my survey, i hope to get as much opinions from recomers regarding this problem.

What do you think? does our country really in need of science teachers? What are the approaches that can be taken to solve it?

Besides that, which science teachers are needed in demand ? Physics , maths ,biology or chemistry?

  • Most all of them.

Physics and Chem. I think are in higher need

  • I'm a retired science teacher in the United States.

The biggest reason for a shortage in the "hard" sciences (physics, chemistry, etc) are that anyone with the interest and ability to get a degree in those fields could make much more working in industry than teaching.

A second problem is that many school systems do not have the support for a good science program. This means pushing the good students to take the hard courses as well as providing the lab space and equipment needed for a good program.

The final problem is that unless the school is fairly large a teacher will not have a full schedule of science classes. For example many times a teacher will only have one Physics class and the rest will be math or lower level science classes.
