  • My doctor just put me on this pill and I can't seem to find much information surrounding it. Anyone with experience of it?

  • Hi, It's almost pointless comparing contraceptive experiences, as everyone reacts differently to medication. Its trial and error, see how you get on with it. Katya is the combined contraceptive pill, it is also sometimes prescribed for menstrual disorders.

As with all contraceptive pills, you start the pill on day one of your menstrual cycle. You might have irregular, breakthrough bleeding and spotting for the first 1-2 months, this will generally settle down after awhile.

Combined hormone contraceptives basically work by stopping you from ovulating and thickening the secretions round your cervix which makes it harder for sperm to get through. It also makes the lining of the womb thinner, which is less habitual for the egg.

Any other information you want to know is contained in the leaflet that came with your medication.
    Best Wishes

  • If you google katya contraceptive pill and scroll down to the NHS and the patient.co.uk, there's a lot of information.
    Your question is there too!
