Im a Catholic. Can any Catholics tell me which saint to pray to if you have depression?
March 15th, 2010 by janeAnyway the saint Catholics pray to for depression is Saint Dympna
Lord God, help this person in their time of need, may the Holy Spirit provide comfort and healing. In Jesus name. Amen
Depression is a seriously debilitating condition that can be treated in most cases by a combination of drugs - SSRI's for preference - and counselling, for example Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
There is no need for your to struggle on your own or consult anonymous strangers for advice, most of whom (unlike myself) have no first-hand knowledge of this serious condition.
The first step is the most difficult, don't wait until you 're unable to take that step.

Apparently some of our non-Catholic brethren don't realize that asking someone else to pray for you IS praying to God. If I ask you to pray for me, I'm not speaking to you INSTEAD of to God. I am multiplying my prayers TO GOD by asking you to join me in prayer. If we can do this with the saints on earth, then certainly we can do the same with the saints in heaven. If an earthly sinner is willing to pray for me in intercession then certainly a heavenly saint will not refuse to do so.
He is the Healing Angel.
Peace!
P.S. C'mon you illiterate hicks, give me a thumbs down!
I know several people who suffer from depression. It is a terrible terrible thing, so I have great empathy. Message me if you want to talk.
Might I suggest buying this book
Surviving Depression
A Catholic Approach

I also highly recommend that the depressed person seek spiritual guidance from a priest or a Catholic individual that has a background in psychology. If the depressed individual seeks medical help, it is important to check to see if the doctor will approach things through the Catholic teaching. Often you have to ask discreetly b/c the psychiatric field can be hostile to doctors who are openly Catholic.
Additionally the following, especially if the case of depression is severe
1. Frequent regimented confession. Every two three weeks the individual should automatically go to confession, in addition to any other times. It is important to promote a regimented habit of confession, even if one does not feel like they should go.
2. Eucharistic Adoration. Spend time before Christ, watching, listening, praying, adoring. Great peace can be found here even when all the rest of life is black.
3. Mass and receiving the Eucharist: As much as you have time for.
4. Avail oneself of the Rosary.
5. Keep the short prayers of the heart in ones mind. Jesus I trust in you. Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner etc. These can cause dark thoughts to flee. As a habit of prayer develops, one s mind can be walled off from the darkness.
6. Prayer to the saints.
Specifically those that are for depression/mental illness can be found here

God bless.
Never heard of taking the matter straight to the top?
also, you might want to talk to your pastor and see if you can get your name or no name but problems - into their prayer groups. the more people praying for your mental health the better!
God bless & keep you!

PS - my prayers are with you too! I'm Catholic too BTW
