Help with a knitting pattern?
March 13th, 2010 by cfzDivide for neck
next row: (rs)k1, k2tog tbl, k25 and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder.
cont on this set of 27 sts only for first side.
working all neck decreases in same way as armhole decreases, dec 1 st at neck edge of 2nd and foll 10 alt rows, then on 2 foll 4th rows and at same time dec 1 st at armhole edge on next and foll 1 row, then on foll 4 alt rows. 8 sts.
this part is just soooooooo confusing. any help would be much appreciated. thanks.
Divide for neck: (that's what you are doing...dividing the front into 2 sections)
Next row: On the right side(rs) knit one, knit 2 together thru back loop (decrease stitch...see link), knit 25 and turn. Put the remaining stitches (ie, the other side of the neck) onto a stitch holder and don't worry about them for awhile).
So you've turned around and now your are heading back from the center of the front back toward the armhole side of the front. You do this in whatever pattern you were knitting in before. I'd have to see the pattern to know what that was.
Now, your neck edge is the one nearest to the stitch holder or the middle of your fabric, and the armhole edge is the outside edge of the fabric. You are doing two different things here. You are decreasing your neckline and you are decreasing your armhole. So you are decreasing along the neck on some rows, and along the armhole on others. I would, at this point, get a pen and paper and make ticks on those for the two separate actions as I went along, to make it easier to keep up.
Your decrease, as I said before, is "knit 2 together thru back loop", or k2togtbl. You do every decrease this way.
NECKLINE: decrease on the second (your next knit row) and following 10 alternate rows. What this means, is do a decrease stitch next to the neckline every other row 10 more times. Then you would do the decrease next to the neckline every 4 rows 2 times.
AT THE SAME TIME you must decrease your armhole edge:
Armhole: Decrease one stitch (k2togtbl) at armhole edge on next two rows, and then every other row 4 times.
You should wind up with 8 stitches.
If you have trouble with k2togtbl, go to: http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitt...
scroll down until you see that stitch and watch the video. The glossary might help you with other terms as well.
I found necklines to be extremely trying at first, and the directions confusing as all get out. And once your done, you get to do it all again on the other side ;) . But if you see it through, it's worth it. Hope that helps.
Good luck, and happy knitting!
continue on this set of 27 stitches for the first side.
working all neck decreases the same way as the armhole decreases.
decrease 1 stitches on neck edge on the second row and every other row on the next 10 rows.
then on decrease 2 stitches on the 4th row.
at the same time decrease 1 stitch at armhole edge on the next 2 rows then every other row on the next 4 rows.
i know what you mean even with my experience those instructions are still confusing and screwing.
On some rows you will decrease at the neck edge only and on others at both neck and arm edges. Make sure you always knit the first and last stitch of each row.
Here are the row by row instructions:
Row 1 : K1, K2tog tbl, K25, turn (27 stitches)
Row 2, and all even numbered rows K1, purl to last stitch, K1
Row 3: dec at neck and arm (25)
Row 5: dec at neck and arm (23)
Row 7: dec at neck and arm (21)
Row 9: dec at neck and arm (19)
Row 11: dec at neck and arm (17)
Row 13: dec at neck and arm (15)
Row 15: dec at neck only (14)
Row 17: dec at neck only (13)
Row 19: dec at neck only (12)
Row 21: dec at neck only (11)
Row 23: dec at neck only (10)
Row 25: Knit across row - no decrease
Row 27: dec at neck only (9)
Row 29: Knit across row - no decrease
Row 31: dec at neck only (8)
Finish off as your pattern says for this side.
Now put the other stitches back onto the needle and work the other side of the neck in the same way.
