Dvd drive icon

  • where does xbmc store the default icon for the dvd drive (w/ no game in it)? mine has picked up an icon from a homebrew game and is using it for the icon. i want to change it. i found the icon it was using in the q:\thumbs\ folder (with the name "5bd5e8f3.tbn"), but changing that did nothing. so how do i assign it a different icon? i'm using the pmii skin if that makes a difference.

  • i did a bit of searching and its a known bug. it is happening because the cached icon for d:\default.xbe is used all the time.

    i have the 21-12-2004 cvs build so it wasn't fixed as of then.

  • i double checked the code. textures.xpr is always checked first so you cannot override any of the default images if they are packed into texture.xpr.


  • as i said above, in my case its the icon from the game soul caliber 2 on my xbox. i too have updated to the 2/1/2005 build and flushed everything but i am still stuck with the icon on my dvd drive.

    if i insert an actual game disc the icon changes to the icon for the game disc, but when i take it out it changes back to soul caliber 2.

    also, this is the description of the bug that was fixed on 23-12-2004:

    [ 1087503 ] dvd xbe names being cached

    in my programs, when a shortcut points directly to the
    default.xbe on a dvd, if i then put a different game in
    the icon for the game changes but the name stays the
    same.

    for instance, i put ninja gaiden in and go into my
    bookmark for the dvd's xbe. it scans it and then shows
    the ninja gaiden icon and title ("ninja gaiden"). i then
    put in lord of the rings: the third age and refresh. the
    icon changes to reflect the game change, but the name
    stays as "ninja gaiden".

    sounds like a slightly different problem to me so i posted a bug report here (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1095048&group_id=87054&atid=581838)


  • omg... this icon is starting to drive me crazy :nuts:

    i just did a clean install of the 2005-01-02 cvs build and that damned icon is still there! i deleted the entire xbmc directory, deleted the save from tdata, and installed the fresh build... but the icon is still there.

    i don't think it's part of the skin either. i've installed xbmc center on a couple of friend's xboxs and i'm pretty sure they have different icons there. but just to make sure, does anyone else here have that same icon pictured in my previous post?

  • sorry, i'm not sure where that came from since i'm not using the pm2 skin. i tried to find some screen shots on chokey's website but there's only two. [i have to admit it's a nice skin. my only complaint with pm1 is that the background is too dark. i like the new blue background.]

    if that icon was there originally, then its part of the skin. i thought that a file in the media directory overrode the textures.xpr file, but i may be wrong. if this is the case, then you cannot change it.

    and the problem with the xbe name being cached was corrected a little while ago. there's a noted about it in the changelog on sourceforge.


  • thanks for the reply, but it didn't seem to work... or i'm still doing something wrong. i made an icon for the dvd drive and placed it in the media folder of the pmii skin. i wasn't exactly sure which icon it was from that list, so i just placed several copies of it in there with each name from your list that had "dvd" in the name. here is the icon i'm trying to change:

    i'm trying to change the icon for "dvd-game". i don't know wtf that icon it is using is supposed to be or where it came from, but i want to change it.

    also, i have another semi-related question. my friend also started using xbmc as his dash and the first game he put in the dvd drive was burnout 3. now, instead of saying "dvd-game" or the name of the game he puts in the drive, it always says "burnout 3". say he puts in halo 2, the icon will change to the xbe icon for halo 2, but the name will say "burnout 3". wtf? is that just some sort of bug?


  • according to the changelong, the icon caching of d:\default.xbe was fixed in cvs as of 2004-12-23.


  • i have the same problem.. soul caliber 2 game icon as my dvd icon and i'm unable to change it. must be a bug


  • that icon is from a homebrew game. dont remember which one though. i had a similar problem but i thought it was fixed a while ago. i belive it was something with some apps having the same id as each other and thus using the same cached icon. try removing the homebrew games, delete cache and do a new scan.
